2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Poor Feedback

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a more defined vision.

Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Key Hires

This announcement follows a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the full text from Ismailer's communication:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our players.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. After several months of discussions, Ben starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the recent years creating and managing some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving him next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.

The President

Title Details and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in October 2024 in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description states. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, stakes, and tests that shift every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."

The game has not yet received an confirmed release date or consoles, but fans can look forward to more updates as development advances.
