Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
