The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
